Great Crochet Baskets – Free Patterns

Are you one of the people who thrills at the sight of an office supply or organization store? Do you color coordinate your office supplies, your tubs of craft supplies, or your kitchen items? If so, then we have the perfect crochet project for you – these simple double-crocheted bowls that can fit into each other neatly when not in use, but are sturdy enough to stand on their own and hold the items you can’t live without – different sorts of teas, or embroidery thread, bobbins, lace, etc. It’s up to you what goes inside these baskets, but once you start making them you may not want to stop!

To make one or more of these baskets, you’ll need the following materials for each:

  • Cotton yarn (easy to clean and you can even throw them in the washer and dryer)
  • A 4mm crochet hook (or hook that matches your gauge, depending on how big you want to make the baskets)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

You can use whatever colors you want, whether you’re doing a set of bowls with white insides and blue outsides, or you’re using up the scraps from previous projects. Be sure that it’s all cotton, however, because if there’s a blend that can’t be put in the washer or dryer, you’ll end up with a bowl that has bumps or tight areas in it. You could, of course, crochet an entire basket and then felt it, but it’s easier to use cotton yarn.

The only stitches you’ll need to know to make a set of these baskets are as follows:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Slip stitch (sl st)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Double crochet (dc)

These are basic stitches that all crocheters should be comfortable with, but if you haven’t mastered the double crochet stitch, you may want some practice before beginning this project. The free pattern we found is available in a few different languages, and each pattern comes with instructions for making a small, medium, and large basket.
