Looking for a cute accessory for baby’s first trip to the beach? No beach trip would be complete without a cute pair of sandals. Keep those little feet away from hot, gritty sand with these darling little shoes, sure to be a hit both with baby and her admirers. What we love about this pattern is that it’s both pretty and practical. They’re also available in an array of sizes, so you should be able to find a size that works for you, although if you need to, you can always customize for a perfect fit. This is one of those patterns where the gauge doesn’t matter as much as the yarn and the crochet hook matching in size, so as long as that is the case, you can make these any size you want.
There are several patterns we liked, but the free one we found might be our favorite. To make a pair of these, you will need the following materials:
- Yarn (something soft and light for baby)
- Crochet hook (the pattern suggests using a size “F”)
- A pair of scissors
- A darning needle
You’ll also need to be familiar with the following stitches:
- Chain (ch)
- Stitch (st)
- Single crochet (sc)
- Double crochet (dc)
- Half double crochet (hdc)
- Single crochet decrease (sc2tog)
- Double crochet decrease (dc2tog)
- Slip stitch (sl st)
Almost all of these should be known to most crocheters, and if you aren’t familiar with one of these, they’re very simple to pick up. Simply find a video tutorial, get comfortable with the stitch, and then start on your sandals project. You may want to coordinate with a specific outfit for a beach baby photo shoot, or make a pair in neutral tones that will go with whatever summer dresses baby has. These would also make an excellent baby shower present.
