If you’ve ever spent time crocheting an afghan or even contemplating the enormity of the project, you might have gotten bored with the repetition. Crocheting the same thing (either squares, circles, or 3-D shapes) over and over in large quantities can get tedious. So how about crocheting smaller things that build up quickly and allow you to feel a bigger sense of accomplishment?
The Macaron Parquet Blanket is the perfect project for someone who enjoys detail work that works up fast. You can whip out several motifs at a time while you’re watching a TV show, or while you’re in the car, or when you’re waiting at the doctor’s office. To make an 80cm x 80cm blanket, you’ll need to crochet about 400 motifs. The recommended yarn for this project is wool (worsted weight would be best).
If you want to follow the instructions to the letter, according to the YouTube video on Crochet Addict’s channel, you’ll need to gather these colors: cream, light yellow, light pink, pink, light purple, bamboo green, light blue, sky blue, blue, and flesh-tone. You’ll also need a 3mm crochet hook and a pair of scissors.
If you don’t want to start on something as large as a blanket, you can of course make a table runner, a rug, or even placemats. This would also look great as a scarf, and you could always start small with a bookmark. However small or large, all you need to know is how to make the macarons. After that, it’s up to you what you create.
While the Crochet Addict YouTube video isn’t available with English subtitles, there is a chart along with the step by step tutorial. If you want further instruction or want to learn how to make individual macarons, you can visit Jayda In Stitches for that, and if you want English instructions and a tutorial for the macaron blanket, you can find that over on Crochet Studio’s YouTube page.
